What to Know Before Hosting a Pool Party for Your Child

When it comes to kid’s parties, a pool party is a guaranteed crowd pleaser! Kids love to swim and play in the water. At the same time, a pool party can mean less work for you. In fact, the hardest part might be getting the kids to come out of the water! However, with a pool party, preparation is a must. Here are three things to think about before moving your next party to the pool.

Find the Right Location

During the process of planning your pool party, make sure you check out the location in advance to ensure that it’s kid-friendly. Not all pools are ideal for a kid’s party; some pools are catered more toward adult lap swimmers than kids. Others are practically an aquatic DisneyLand, but might not be suitable for keeping track of a bunch of slippery little fish! Find a pool with plenty for the kids to do, while allowing you to keep an eye on them. Think about the age of the children and plan accordingly. Older kids who can swim are more trustworthy at a larger facility with large slides, wave pools, and diving boards. Younger children would do better at a smaller-scale pool with splash features and small slides.

Keep Safety in Mind

Every party should be all fun and nothing but fun. As great as pool parties are, extra vigilance is required when there are multiple kids to keep track of.  There must be a lifeguard on duty. Even at a neighborhood or personal pool, you should hire a lifeguard for your event. It is far too easy to get distracted by everything going on and miss a critical moment. Ask parents about each child’s swimming ability and insist on a lifejacket for non-swimmers. Furthermore, make sure that your own children know how to swim. Swimming lessons teach your kids crucial techniques that can save them in the water. Finally, follow common pool safety rules, such as no running or horseplay.

Plan Activities for Outside of the Water

As much as the average kid loves the water, not all kids do. Even for the little fishes of the party, it is common for kids to get cold or tired of swimming quicker than you might have hoped. Because of this, it is always best to plan for kids being out of the water, at least part of the time. Fun land activities could include snacks, chalk drawings, bubbles, water balloons, crafts, or even a poolside bounce house.

Make sure your next pool party is safe and fun for everyone. And that includes you! When you know what to expect and plan ahead, you can host a successful pool party without even breaking a sweat! Reward yourself for a job well done with a nice relaxing soak of your own afterwards.
